A mutating, alien menace threatens the last remnant of mankind. It's a bit jankier, but ambitious games usually are.The Earth has been overrun. Overall, it's really good! The tone feels more bleak, more desperate, than the X-COM games. That said, between mutations, augmentations, combination classes, gear and unique items, and character-specific abilities, the character build variety is pretty good. I found a few combinations that worked really well for specific builds and basically never deviated. The mutation and augmentation features are great and add a lot of customization, but most of the options are basically slightly better versions of armour. Some features, like secret weapons you can obtain, feel a bit undercooked (you need specific resources and processing sites, which can be frustrating because they very difficult encounters, but you don't have an easy way to tell what type of site you're assaulting beforehand). At the same time, the diplomacy features are a nice addition, though the faction ideologies are a bit shallow. For example: soldier don't break glass before shooting through, so if you shoot through glass, the first bullet (or in the case of shotguns all of the pellets) won't make it through. The campaign feels much longer than the newer X-COM games, but there are a few quality of life features missing. It's long, difficult, with lots of customization options and multiple endings.
